Kristi Yamaguchi dominated the skating world in 1992 by winning Olympic, World and U.S. titles. Giving back is something else she's excelled at over the last three-plus decades. Her literacy program, Always Dream, has helped thousands of children learn how to read.

Voting Now Open for SKATING Magazine Readers’ Choice Award

Each summer, figure skating fans are asked to vote for the eligible U.S. skater/team they believe is most deserving of the SKATING magazine Readers’ Choice Skater(s) of the Year Award (Michelle Kwan Trophy) based on the accomplishments of the past season (2024-25). This year's online voting begins July 7 and runs through July 13.

On Jan. 29, 2025, a tragic aviation accident near Washington, D.C., claimed the lives of 28 U.S. Figure Skating athletes, coaches and parents. All told, 67 people died in the mid-air collision involving a commericial airliner and a military helicopter. This incident and other recent concerning aviation news have created a heightened sense of flight anxiety for many people. But despite these recent episodes, flying on a U.S. commercial airline remains an exceptionally safe mode of travel. Mental health experts and those professionals in the aviation industry share ways to cope with flying stress.
