Every January, U.S. Figure Skating and Learn to Skate USA join forces to host a nationwide annual campaign designed to welcome new skaters to the ice for the first time. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor, a figure skating fan or brand new skater, National Skating Month is a great time to deepen your involvement with the sport and celebrate the magic of skating. Here are five ways you can join in on the fun.
Participate in a National Skating Month Event
With hundreds of organized National Skating Month events taking place across the country, it’s a great time to get to know your local skating community and spend a fun-filled day at the rink. Click here to see if an event is happening near you. If you’re new to skating, now is a great time to start your own skating journey. Visit the skating journey section of our website to learn how to get started.
Skate out of your comfort zone
Take a moment to step out of your traditional skating routine and celebrate the joy that skating brings to your life. If you’re a regular at the ice rink, take your skates to a seasonal rink or a unique outdoor skating location. If you’re used to skating on your own, grab a friend or family member and spend time reconnecting as you take laps around the rink. Stay present and enjoy the feeling of ice beneath your feet.
Craft your own spellbinding skate
Add a dose of magic to your skating routine by crafting your own spellbinding skate. Download or print the Spellbinding Skate worksheet, fill in the blanks and watch the magic unfold. Your skating journey is uniquely your own, and your spellbinding skate is a magical concoction that only you can create.
Catch up on the competition season
The 2020 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships is right around the corner, and it’s a great time to catch up on the competition season. Head over to the U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone or check out the NBC Sports Gold Figure Skating Pass, and relive the magical moments from the 2019–20 competition season.
Share your favorite skating memories
National Skating Month is a great time to celebrate skating and relive the magic of your time on the ice. Take a moment to share your favorite ice skating memories, past or present, with us using #NationalSkatingMonth and #MagicOfSkating. Select photos will be featured on the Learn to Skate USA website and social media channels, so be sure to put your best foot (and skate) forward!
