(3/24/20) Letter from U.S. Figure Skating President Anne Cammett

U.S. Figure Skating President Anne Cammett wrote a letter to U.S. Figure Skating membership regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Dear U.S. Figure Skating members,

While these past few weeks have brought a whirlwind of challenges and, for some, isolation due to the pandemic, I’ve taken comfort knowing how our close-knit figure skating community continues to support one another. These are indeed trying times and I want to assure you of one thing: We care about you, and your health and well-being remain paramount to U.S. Figure Skating.

This mantra guides our leadership team while making difficult yet prudent decisions, such as canceling national programs or events. In the weeks ahead we will continue to follow health officials’ guidance and federal, state and local governmental restrictions to help slow the spread of COVID-19. As these restrictions have been put in place and revised across the nation since our March 15, 2020, communication to members, we have extended and reiterate our strong recommendation that clubs make the decision to cancel or postpone competitions, events and programs until May 11, 2020, at which time we will reevaluate the situation.

Rest assured we are not slowing down! Across the organization, committees, clubs, volunteers and staff are working harder than ever to keep members inspired and engaged while being prepared for when we all return to the ice. While headquarters staff continues to work from home, they have not missed a beat and are there for your questions and concerns.

We will use the upcoming months to work with organizers to retool and improve future competitions, events and programs. While I’m disappointed for the hard-working athletes, coaches and volunteers whose events have been canceled or postponed, I am very proud of the work and resolve shown by our figure skating community.

I look forward to seeing our athletes and coaches back on the ice and our rinks return as community gathering places. Please stay energized, stay engaged and stay healthy.

Sincerely,

Anne Cammett
President, U.S. Figure Skating
