Figure skating has taken root in the eastern Caribbean island of Barbados. With the goal of one day having an ice rink, the Barbados Skating Association is being represented at competitions and camps in the U.S. and internationally. U.S. Figure Skating has stepped up with expert instruction and resources to help Barbados in the transition.
Year-around ice sports in Southern Utah became a reality last fall when KJ's Ice Barn opened in Enoch. The facility was the dream of Kerry Jo Fain, who passed away while the building was being constructed. Her family and many others have stepped up to make the rink a jewel of the community and a place for everyone to come and have fun.

Katie McGovern Nyman started the Space Coast Hurricanes Theatre on Ice program more than two decades ago. In that time, she has grown the program to more than 100 participants and four teams. Three of those teams will compete later this month at the National Theatre on Ice event in Allen, Texas.
Reno Ice in Reno, Nevada, has been thriving since its beginnings five years ago. The nonprofit is bursting at the seams, trying to give all of its programs adequate ice time. A second rink is on the horizon as fundraising continues to make it a reality.
In its fourth season as a program, the CU Figure Skating Team in Boulder, Colorado, earned a berth to the National Intercollegiate Final. The competition took place last week in South Bend, Indiana. The Golden Buffaloes' commitment and motivation paved the way to their success.
Each year, U.S. Figure Skating awards six Community Development Grants to programs wishing to introduce the sport of ice skating to underserved communities. The Chicago Youth Foundation's Figure Skating on Your Block program has been a beneficiary of these grants, and last year it helped record numbers of children enjoy the feeling of gliding on the ice.
