With his gold-medal finish at 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy, Vincent Zhou secured a third entry in the men's competition for the United States at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. Nebelhorn Trophy, held September 21-25 in Oberstdorf, Germany, is the final qualifying competition for the Olympic Winter Games.
Zhou entered the free skate in first place, winning the short program with a 97.35-point performance that included a quadruple Lutz-triple toe loop combination and a quadruple Salchow. The 2019 World bronze medalist went on to win the free skate and the competition with a total score of 284.23 points, clearing the field by over 40 points. His 186.88-point free skate to music from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon featured four quadruple jumps.
Based on the results of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2021, the United States earned two Olympic entries in both the women's and men's competition with the opportunity to confirm a third entry at Nebelhorn Trophy. Alysa Liu will compete to secure the third entry for U.S. in the women's competition tomorrow in Germany.
In addition to the entries to be confirmed at Nebelhorn Trophy, the U.S. secured two entries in the pairs and three entries in ice dance at the 2021 World Championships.
