Results: Nebelhorn Trophy | JGP Czech Republic
Fourteen athletes will take the ice for the United States at Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany, while 13 Americans will compete at JGP Czech Republic in Ostrava.
Nebelhorn Trophy
In the ladies field, Mariah Bell will make her season debut in Germany. Bell owns two Challenger Series medals in her career and finished fifth at the 2018 U.S. Championships. Ashley Lin will make her senior international debut after finishing fifth in the junior competition at the Asian Open in August.
Alex Krasnozhon will compete in his second career Challenger Series event. The reigning Junior Grand Prix Final champion won the silver medal at the Tallinn Trophy last season. Tim Dolensky will also represent Team USA in the men’s competition. The Georgia native finished sixth at the Lombardia Trophy earlier this month.
Three pairs teams will represent the United States at Nebelhorn Trophy. Audrey Lu and Misha Mitrofanov will look to collect more hardware in Germany after claiming the silver medal in their senior international debut at the U.S. International Classic. Also fresh off a podium finish, Deanna Stellato and Nathan Bartholomay will compete in their second-straight event after earning the silver medal at Ondrej Nepela Trophy last week. Rounding out the pairs contingent, reigning U.S. champions Alexa Scimeca-Knierim and Chris Knierim will make their season debut. The duo, who has been training in Germany this fall, won the silver medal at this event in 2015.
Reigning U.S. junior champions Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko are among the two ice dance teams representing Team USA in Germany. The duo won the silver medal in their senior international debut at the U.S. International Classic earlier this month. Rachel and Michael Parsons will compete in their third Challenger Series event of the season, taking silver at both the Asian Open and Lombardia Trophy. The sibling duo also finished second at the Lake Placid Ice Dance competition this summer.
The event will start with the ladies and pairs short programs and the rhythm dance on Thursday, Sept. 27. On Friday, Sept. 28, the men’s competition will begin along with the conclusion of the ladies and ice dance competition. The competition will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 29 with the men’s and pairs free skate.
JGP Czech Republic
Ting Cui will compete in her second JGP event of the season after placing fifth at JGP Austria earlier this fall.
In the men’s competition, Camden Pulkinen will look to win his second consecutive JGP gold medal after winning the title in Austria. He is the reigning U.S. junior champion and is looking to punch his ticket to his second consecutive Junior Grand Prix Final. Jonathan Yang will make his international debut after finishing eighth in the novice competition at the 2018 U.S. Championships.
The United States will send three couples to compete in the pairs competition. Sarah Feng and TJ Nyman will compete in their second JGP of the season after finishing sixth in Canada. The pair took home the silver medal in the junior competition at the 2018 U.S. Championships and finished eighth at the ISU World Junior Championships last season. Laiken Lockley and Keenan Prochnow will look to improve on their fourth place finish at JGP Austria. The pair claimed the junior bronze medal at the 2018 U.S. Championships. Kate Finster and Balazs Nagy will make their international debut in the Czech Republic.
In the ice dance competition, Katarina Wolfkostin and Howard Zhao will also make their international debut in the Czech Republic. The duo won the novice competition at U.S. Championships last season. Sophia and Christopher Elder will also compete in the ice dance competition. The sibling duo finished sixth at JGP Austria earlier this season.
The ladies and pairs short programs, and the rhythm dance will start Thursday and the men’s competition will get underway on Friday.
Entering its 22nd season, the JGP Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, Dec. 6-9 in Vancouver. The ISU will stream the event live on its YouTube page.
