TEAM USA HEADS TO FINLAND AS GRAND PRIX SERIES CONTINUES

Competition will take place over three days with the ladies and pairs short programs as well as the rhythm dance on Friday, Nov. 2. Those disciplines will continue on Saturday, Nov. 3, as well as the men’s short program. The men’s free skate will take place Sunday, Nov. 4. The Figure Skating Pass on NBC Sports Gold will stream the competition live to subscribers beginning at 9 a.m. ET on Nov. 2. NBC will air a recap of the competition at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 4. Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA will present encore coverage this Grand Prix season, Monday-Thursday following each event’s conclusion.

Angela Wang returns to Finland after finishing eighth at Finlandia Trophy earlier this season. The event is Wang’s first Grand Prix appearance since Trophee Eric Bompard in 2015.

In the men’s field, Alex Krasnozhon makes his senior Grand Prix debut. Krasnozhon finished fifth at Nebelhorn Trophy earlier this season. He won the Junior Grand Prix Final in 2017.

The pairs tandem of Deanna Stellato and Nathan Bartholomay will skate in their first Grand Prix event of the season, after having won silver and bronze medals earlier this season at Nebelhorn and Ondrej Nepela Trophy, respectively.

Two American teams will compete in the ice dance competition. Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko will make their senior Grand Prix debut in Helsinki. The duo won the silver medal at their international debut at the U.S. International Classic and followed with a bronze medal at Nebelhorn Trophy. Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter will skate in their second Grand Prix event of the season after finishing fourth at Skate America.

The Grand Prix Series, now in its 24th season, consists of six international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Approximately 300 athletes from 30 countries are expected to participate in the series. Each athlete is eligible to score points in up to two of the six scheduled events. The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the 2018 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, set for Dec. 6-9, in Vancouver.
