McNamara and Carpenter won their second Challenger Series silver medal of the season, scoring 174.35 total points in the ice dance competition. The Helsinki Grand Prix of Figure Skating bronze medalists were in second place after the rhythm dance, completing Level 4 twizzles and a Level 3 rotational lift. Despite placing third in the free skate with 105.66 points, the duo was able to hold on to their position, securing silver.
In the men’s competition, Hiwatashi secured his first Challenger Series medal and first senior international medal of his career. In his season-best short program, Hiwatashi landed four triple jumps in his clean skate, securing all positive grades of execution. The 2016 U.S. junior champion scored 77.22 points to move into third place. Despite two falls in his free skate, Hiwatashi maintained his position, scoring 199.21 total points to earn the bronze medal.
Camden Pulkinen finished sixth in the competition, scoring 196.55 overall points. Both Pulkinen and Hiwatashi will compete in the Junior Grand Prix Final this December in Vancouver.
Ashley Lin had a remarkable come-from-behind performance in the ladies competition, jumping from 12th to fourth place. After taking a fall in her short program, Lin rebounded to score 114.71 points in the free skating, finishing third. With an overall score of 165.34, she missed the podium by just .06 points.
