SEVEN ATHLETES TO REPRESENT THE UNITED STATES AT JGP SLOVAKIA

Seven Americans are headed to the opening event of the 2018 International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (JGP) Series this week in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Competition starts on Thursday with the men’s, pairs and ladies short program. The rhythm dance will take place on Friday.

Pooja Kalyan will be making her JGP series debut. She is the 2018 U.S. junior silver medalist and 2017 U.S. novice bronze medalist.

In the men’s competition, Ryan Dunk will skate in his second JGP series after finishing ninth in 2017 at JGP Austria. He was the 2018 U.S. junior pewter medalist. Andrew Torgashev leads off his season in Slovakia, hoping to return to the JGP Final for the second consecutive year. He has won two career JGP medals.

Katarina DelCamp and Maxwell Gart and Eliana Gropman and Ian Somerville will represent the United States in the ice dance competition. DelCamp and Gart are making their international debut, while Gropman and Somerville will skate in their fifth career JGP series event.

Entering its 22nd season, the JGP Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, Dec. 6-9 in Vancouver. The ISU will stream the event live on its YouTube page.
