The day will be a celebration of those who embody the Get Up® spirit. On this day, people are encouraged to share their stories at WeGetUp.com, by using #WeGetUp or by contacting their local media outlet with their story, or the story of a friend or loved one, or an organization that is doing inspiring Get Up® work in their community.
U.S. Figure Skating will encourage media outlets around the country to share Get Up® moments throughout the day on February 1, whether connected to the sport of figure skating or not, through feature stories, pictures, videos, social media, etc. U.S. Figure Skating will also invite the U.S. Olympic Committee and other National Governing Bodies of Sport and their members and fans to participate.
February 1 marks the midpoint of National Skating Month (January & February), when rinks across the country bring communities together to experience the joys and benefits of skating. U.S. Figure Skating is experiencing record breaking participation rates among their clubs with more than 500 open houses and free lesson days take place nationally, with the first lesson in skating being how to fall down, and more importantly, how to get back up again, a lesson all participants can apply across all aspects of their lives.
U.S. Figure Skating celebrates the second annual National Get Up® Day on Thursday, February 1, 2018, just one week prior to the start of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Korea. This national day of celebration is a legacy of U.S. Figure Skating’s Get Up® campaign that will run through May of 2018.
