All three ladies stumbled on opening jumps but recovered to skate solid programs.
Mirai Nagasu, Karen Chen and Bradie Tennell are in ninth, 10th and 11th respectively.
Nagasu, who fell on her triple Axel, earned 66.93 points.
“This isn’t what I wanted, but you can’t always have what you want and I’m so incredibly proud of myself for taking that fall and continuing the rest of the program and getting every element done,” Nagasu said.
She and Tennell won a bronze medal as part of the team event last week.
Chen scored 65.90 points in her Olympic debut.
“I’m [pretty proud] of myself that I was able to keep it together and didn’t let that silly mistake bother me mentally or physically,” Chen said. “I just made sure I held my spin, stayed focused on my footwork and made sure I added that double toe after the triple loop.”
Tennell, who led off the event, earned 64.01 points. She had a rare fall on her opening combination jump.
“My timing was just a little off and my left arm got a little away from me, so I wasn’t able to get the snap,” Tennell said.
Figure skating competition will take a day off on Thursday, before concluding with the ladies free skate on Friday at 10 a.m. (Thursday, 8 p.m. ET).
