KNIERIMS QUALIFY FOR PAIRS FREE SKATE AT OLYMPIC GAMES

Alexa Scimeca-Knierim and Chris Knierim finished the pairs short program in 14th place on Wednesday morning at Gangneung Ice Arena. Their placement qualified them for Thursday’s free skate.

The husband and wife pair scored 65.55 points in their Moulin Rouge short program which included no deductions. The Knierims are less than five points from reaching the top 10.

“Chris and I said to each other before we skated, ‘Enjoy everything out there. Even if we make mistakes, let’s be proud of the mistakes because we are here and that’s an accomplishment’,” Scimeca-Knierim said. “We are not upset at all with the score or the way we skated; we are just honored to be here.”

The pair won the bronze medal as part of the team event earlier in the week. They are appearing in their first Olympic Winter Games. The pairs free skate will begin on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. (Wednesday, 8:30 p.m. ET).
