GRANT HOCHSTEIN RETIRES FROM COMPETITIVE FIGURE SKATING

Former World Team member Grant Hochstein announced his retirement from competitive figure skating today.

“It has been an honor and privilege to have been a member of Team USA since 2008 and I have been fortunate enough to have competed at fifteen U.S. Championships,” Hochstein said.

The two-time U.S. pewter medalist looks to bring his competitive experience to a new role moving forward as a full-time coach.

“Skating has brought me such joy over the years and though I will no longer be competing, I will be able to shift my passion full time into coaching,” he said. “Staying involved in the sport is very important to me and I hope to share my experience and knowledge with the next generation of skaters.”

Coached by Peter Oppegard and Karen Kwan-Oppegard in Artesia, California, Hochstein has represented the United States on the junior and senior international circuit since 2008. In 2016, he finished in the top 10 in his World Championships debut on home soil in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to winning the U.S. collegiate title in 2011, Hochstein won three U.S. medals at the junior and senior levels in his 16-year competitive career. Most recently, the Michigan native placed fifth at the 2018 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships and competed at the 2018 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships.
