Four Continents Championships Set to Begin Thursday in Anaheim

The International Skating Union (ISU) Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2019 will be held Feb. 7-10, 2019, in Anaheim, California, at HONDA Center. Official practice begins Tuesday, Feb. 5. Competition begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, Feb. 7 with the ladies short program.

Held annually since 1999, the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships feature skaters from the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Skaters compete in singles, pairs and ice dancing.

The event is returning to the United States for the first time since 2012, when it was held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was also held in the United States in 2006, 2007 and 2011. The U.S. delegation is comprised of three athletes or teams in each discipline and was named following the 2019 GEICO U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Jan. 19-27, 2019.

NBCSN will host live coverage of the event, beginning with the ladies short program Thursday, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m. ET, and continuing with the men’s short program later that night. The ladies free skate will air on NBCSN at 12 a.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 8, and the men’s free skate will be live on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 11:30 p.m. ET. The ladies and men’s free skate will also be replayed on NBC on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. ET. Additionally, NBCSN will feature the free dance on Monday, Feb. 11 at 12 a.m. ET.

Commentary throughout the competition on NBC and NBCSN will be hosted by 1998 Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski and three-time U.S. champion Johnny Weir for the ladies and men’s competition. 2006 Olympic silver medalist Tanith White and 2014 Olympic champion Charlie White will be on the call for the free dance.

NBC Sports Gold will provide live and on-demand coverage of all events to Figure Skating Pass subscribers. The U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone will feature event recaps, live results and more throughout the event.

The Bridgestone Ice Desk will stream live from Anaheim on U.S. Figure Skating’s Facebook and YouTube. Nick McCarvel will host the coverage with analysts Michael Weiss (three-time U.S. men’s champion), Ashley Wagner (three-time U.S. champion, 2016 World silver medalist, 2014 Olympic Team Event bronze medalist), Brooke Castile (2007 U.S. pairs champion) and Sinead Kerr (seven-time British ice dance champion) joining for commentary.

The 18-member U.S. delegation at Four Continents features 2019 U.S. champions Ashley Cain and Timothy LeDuc, and Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, as well as 2018 Olympians Bradie Tennell, Vincent Zhou, and Madison Chock and Evan Bates. Tarah Kayne and Danny O’Shea will look to defend their Four Continents title in the pairs competition. In the ice dance competition, 2019 U.S. bronze medalists Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker will compete for their second-straight Four Continents gold medal. Capturing the bronze medal last year in Taipei City, Jason Brown will also skate for his second consecutive spot on the Four Continents podium.

The international field includes 2018 World and Olympic silver medalist Shoma Uno of Japan, 2018 Grand Prix Final champion Rika Kihira of Japan, and China’s 2018 Olympic silver medalists Wenjing Sui and Cong Han.
