Madison Chock and Evan Bates claimed the silver medal at Cup of China to lead Team USA in Chongqing, China.
In their Egyptian-themed program, the 2019 Four Continents champions scored 128.21 points, a personal best. They received over 3.00 points in Grade of Execution for four elements, including their Level 4 curve lift-curve lift combination. They also notched Level 4 marks for their rotation lift, combination spin and twizzles. With a total score of 208.55, Chock and Bates won their second silver medal of the Grand Prix season and move one step closer to qualifying for their fifth Grand Prix Final.
Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker finished fifth in the free dance and competition with a total score of 179.96. The Montreal-based couple received 105.26 points for their free dance, which included four Level 4 elements.
Russia’s reigning World silver medalists Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov claimed the title (209.90) and Canada’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen earned the bronze medal (190.74).
In the ladies competition, Amber Glenn placed sixth with a total score of 178.35. She earned 110.66 points for her free skate to “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles, which featured five triple jumps and a closing Level 4 layback spin.
2019 Skate America champion Anna Shcherbakova of Russia won the gold medal (226.04), Japan’s Satoko Miyahara earned silver (211.18) and Russia’s Elizaveta Tuktamysheva claimed the bronze (209.10).
Tarah Kayne and Danny O’Shea finished sixth in the free skate and sixth overall in the pairs competition with 114.71 and 178.79 points, respectively. Their Les Miserables free skate closed with two strong Level 4 lifts, a reverse lasso and Axel lift.
China took the top two spots with reigning World champions Wenjing Sui and Cong Han winning the title (228.37), and 2019 Skate America champions Cheng Peng and Yang Jin earning silver (199.97). Canada’s Liubov Ilyushechkina and Charlie Bilodeau claimed the bronze medal (190.73).
In the men’s competition, Camden Pulkinen scored 139.75 points for his free skate to total 218.67 and finish eighth. His performance featured a strong triple Axel-double toe loop combination.
The host country also took the top two spots in the men’s competition with Boyang Jin winning gold (261.53) and Han Yan taking silver (249.45). Italy’s Matteo Rizzo rounded out the podium with 241.88 points.
