2019 Governing Council Kicks Off in Downtown Colorado Springs

The annual U.S. Figure Skating Governing Council will be held in downtown Colorado Springs.

The annual U.S. Figure Skating Governing Council will be held in downtown Colorado Springs. President Anne Cammett will preside over the May 1–4 event, which will welcome more than 300 delegates from across the nation to The Antlers, a historic hotel in the heart of downtown.

Recently in odd-number years, Governing Council has been held in Colorado Springs — home to U.S. Figure Skating’s headquarters — as a cost-saving measure. Bringing the event downtown will offer attendees a variety of amenities, including a wide array of restaurants.

“We are pleased to give our returning members a fresh experience this year,” said Cammett, who was elected president last May in Orlando. “Governing Council is such an important function of our organization, and we recognize the commitment of those who attend. Bringing the event downtown will help foster the in-person meetings and new and continued working relationships that allow us all to learn from one another and further U.S. Figure Skating’s goals.”

With a membership of more than 192,000, athletes, delegates appointed by member clubs and individual members will meet to vote on bylaw and rule changes, attend seminars and hold meetings.

Wednesday’s popular Club Education seminar will kick off activities at 2 p.m.

Thursday’s slate offers a host of meetings, presentations and seminars, including drop-in training dedicated to the event management system for the 2020 Qualifying Series between 1:30 – 9 p.m.

On Friday afternoon, Cammett will call to order the full Governing Council, which will again convene Saturday.

The weekend’s final event will be the AAC dinner on Saturday night, featuring new U.S. Hall of Fame member Timothy Goebel as the guest speaker. The annual fundraiser will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Summit Ballroom inside The Antlers. Tickets may be purchased at governingcouncil.org or on site.
