2018 U.S. SYNCHRONIZED SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDES, WORLD TEAM ANNOUNCED

Competition at the 2018 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships wrapped up in Portland, Oregon, over the weekend with the announcement of the selections to the World Synchronized Skating Team.

The Haydenettes, who captured their 26th U.S. title this weekend, and 2018 U.S. silver medalists Skyliners will compete at the World Synchronized Skating Championships in Stockholm, Sweden, April 6-7, as USA 1 and USA 2, respectively. Miami University, who returned to the podium this year for the bronze medal after finishing fourth last year, has been selected as the first alternate team. Fourth-place finishers, the Crystallettes are the second alternate team.

The Skyliners junior team repeated as U.S. junior champions, marking their fourth consecutive podium finish. They won their title with a 16.81-point win over the Lexettes. The Massachusetts-based team won their second consecutive silver medal with a total of 158.88. The Starlights finished third with the Chicago Jazz in fourth.

The Skyliners novice team experienced similar success, defending their U.S. novice title with a free skate score of 72.11 points. The Ice Mates improved upon their third-place finish in 2017 to win the silver medal in Portland with 69.03 points. In third with 63.62, Team Image finished on the podium for the first time. Teams Elite rounded out the podium in fourth.

In the intermediate field, Teams Elite won the title for the first time with 69.75 points, over nine points ahead of silver medalists, the Skyliners intermediate team. Capital Ice Chips captured the bronze medal with 58.71, and Team Del Sol finished close behind in fourth with 58.43.

At the juvenile level, the Mini Mates returned to the top of the podium for the first time in three years. The Skyliners juvenile team finished second, Teams Elite third and Starlights fourth.

In the collegiate competition, University of Michigan successfully defended their title to capture their third U.S. crown. Adrian College came in second with Miami University in third. Michigan State University finished fourth.

Team Excel won the 2018 U.S. adult title, improving from their third-place finish last year. The Crystallettes repeated as silver medalists with Esprit de Corps finishing third. DC EDGE came in fourth.
