Competition begins Wednesday, March 21, with the ladies and pairs short programs. The men’s competition begins Thursday, March 22, and the ice dancers will take the ice Friday, March 23. The event concludes Saturday, March 24.
Mariah Bell will make her second World Championships appearance after being added to Team USA's roster last week. She placed 12th at the 2017 World Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Mirai Nagasu, making her third World Championships appearance, became the first U.S. lady to land a triple Axel in Olympic competition last month in PyeongChang. Bradie Tennell, who finished ninth at the 2018 Olympic Games, will make her World Championships debut as reigning U.S. champion.
Max Aaron was also added to the roster this month, and will appear at his fourth World Championships. Aaron recorded his best World finish in 2013 when he paced seventh. Nathan Chen looks to bounce back from his Olympic debut in PyeongChang. He enters competition with momentum, having scored a competition-best 215.08 points in his Olympic free skate. Vincent Zhou will also carry momentum into his first World Championships, having finished sixth last month in his Olympic debut. He won the World Junior Championships in 2017.
Two teams will compete for the United States in the pairs competition. U.S. champions Alexa Scimeca-Knierim and Chris Knierim, who finished tenth at the 2017 World Championships, will be joined by Deanna Stellato and Nathan Bartholomay, who are the 2018 U.S. bronze medalists and finished fifth at the Four Continents Championships in February.
Three teams will represent the United States in the ice dance competition. Madison Chock and Evan Bates, two-time World medalists, will appear in their sixth World Championships, while fellow Olympic team members Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue will compete as reigning U.S. champions in Milan. Both teams will be joined by Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker, who were added to the roster earlier this month. Hawayek and Baker are making their World Championships debut after winning the 2018 Four Continents Championships.
