National titles were awarded in nine divisions at 2025 National Theatre On Ice in Allen, Texas last week.
Teams representing The Skating Club of Boston dominated the competition, taking home gold in five divisions – senior, junior, novice, intermediate and adaptive – while Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan claimed the top prize in the preliminary and adult events. The Space Coast Hurricanes and Team Spectacle earned gold in the juvenile and open divisions, respectively.
Senior
Forte of Boston reclaimed their title as senior champions, winning the team’s third total title and first since 2022.
Their choreographic exercise titled “Fight Democratic Tyranny” earned more than eight points for every program component, including a program-high 8.89 points for their presentation of the theme. They were the only team to score eight points for every program component, resulting in a total segment score of 64.26.
In their free performance that reminded viewers that, "happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light,” the team out of Norwood, Massachusetts, scored 142.50 points to grow their lead and run away with the gold with a total of 206.76 points. As the only team to receive component scores of over nine points for every element, they won the segment by more than 22 points.
Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan tallied a total score of 181.02 to claim the silver medal. Their choreographic exercise, which told the story of a revolution breaking through the matrix of society, was highlighted by their choreographic process and received 60.98 points.
In the free performance, the team scored 120.04 points for their program that depicted the celebration of bridging the gap between the living and the dead on Dia de los Muertos.
Capital Theatre On Ice collected 58.81 points in the choreographic exercise and 112.09 points in the free performance to take home the bronze medal and a total score of 170.90.
Creative Ice Theatre secured the pewter medal with a total score of 149.01.
Junior
Act I of Boston continued their impressive win streak with their fifth consecutive and sixth overall title in the junior event.
Their choreographic exercise depicted a revolution that sparks a series of events leading to an inevitable outcome. Their skating skills were the star of the program, earning 7.36 points toward a segment score of 53.05.
On day two of competition, their performance titled “Bolero: A warrior’s journey” garnered 114.86 points with component scores of 7.79 for both their composition and gestures. In total, the team scored 167.91 points.
Los Angeles Ice Theater collected 154.93 points to take home the silver medal. Their choreographic exercise depicted a revolution where every day is a rebellion against darkness, a defiance of fear and a chance to step boldly into change that generated 47.80 points.
The team representing the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club’s free performance portrayed the story in ancient Chinese mythology of the four celestial guardians who protect the four cardinal directions to ensure order prevails over chaos. Their skate earned 107.13 points for a total score of 154.93.
Ocean State Ice Theatre tallied 46.19 points in the choreographic exercise, 100.83 points for the free performance and 147.02 points overall.
Houston Ice Theatre Skaters received 137.62 points to finish with the pewter medal.
Novice
Encore of Boston was victorious once again, securing their third gold medal in the novice event in a come-from-behind victory.
Their choreographic exercise asked the question: what is the perspective of the other side of the revolution? Their choreographic process shined, earning 6.25 points toward a segment score of 45.27.
Trailing by less than two points going into the free performance, Encore pulled ahead thanks to component scores of over six points in every category to clinch a score of 97.66 in the free performance. Their program showed how the rhythm within us can be the driving force that leads to our destiny. They finished with 142.93 points.
Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan clinched silver thanks to a first-place finish in the choreographic exercise portion of competition. They were only team to score over six points in for every program component, including a program-high 6.50 points for their choreographic process. Their program depicted an internal revolution of inner strength and asked the question: what will you be today? The skate collected 47.08 points.
On day two, Harmony’s Cats-themed free program scored 91.54 points, contributing to a total score of 138.62.
Los Angeles Ice Theater also stood on the podium with the bronze. They earned 40.15 points for the choreographic exercise and 87.17 point for the free performance for 127.32 points in total.
Symmetry Ice Theatre secured pewter with 112.65 points.
Intermediate
Allegro of Boston clinched their second consecutive win with a narrow two-point victory, collecting 116.18 total points.
Their choreographic exercise served as a reminder that when the youth band together, they can rewrite history. The skate scored 37.28 points and was highlighted by their presentation of the theme with 5.20 points, the highest mark in the competition.
Inspired by Stranger Things, Allegro took a trip to the upside down where they encounter unknown dangers and challenges in their free performance. The skate received 78.90 points from the judges, who awarded 5.40 points for the team’s ability to create a universe. Overall, Allegro of Boston earned 116.18 points.
Finishing with the silver medal, Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan opened the event with their choreographic exercise that depicted how Eminem has left a lasting impact on the rap industry by breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes and simplifying diverse voices. The skate tallied 36.16 points.
Their free performance received 77.90 points, telling a story of hope and community with a million dreams for a better tomorrow. Their composition was the highest-scoring element of the competition, receiving 5.50 points. The two programs combined for a total score of 114.06.
Onyx Theatre scored 32.96 and 74.70 points for the choreographic exercise and free performance, respectively, to take bronze with a total score of 107.66.
Ocean State Theatre placed fourth with a two-day total of 93.86 points.
Juvenile
The Space Coast Hurricanes successfully defended their title, overcoming a three point-deficit in the choreographic exercise to take gold for the second straight year.
The champions played with the choreographic exercise’s theme of “revolution” to depict the earth’s revolution and a journey through all four seasons. The interpretation of the theme was well-received by judges, who gave 4.75 points for their presentation of the theme and 30.24 points for the segment.
They rallied from third after day one to first in the free performance with their program that transported audiences back to the 1920s for a seaside adventure with sunbathing, swimming, games and a newfound freedom from societal expectations. They earned over four points on every program component, including 4.55 points for their ability to create a universe that contributed a 63.05 segment score and a combined 93.29 points.
In a close race to the top of the podium, Team Envision finished just 0.10 points behind the Space Coast Hurricanes with a score of 93.19 to secure the silver medal. Their choreographic exercise, which gave a history lesson of the revolutionary invention that is the wheel, won the first segment of competition by scoring over four points on all but one element, including their presentation of the theme which was the highest-scoring element of the competition with 4.75 points. In total, the program collected 33.84 points.
Their free performance turned the arena into a concert with their tribute to Taylor Swift and the Eras Tour. The skate garnered 59.35 points.
Bronze medalists Los Angeles Ice Theater scored 30.86 points in the choreographic exercise and 62.10 points in the free performance for a total score of 92.96.
Houston Ice Theatre Skaters rounded out the podium to claim the pewter medal with 89.66 points. The team out of the Lone Star State jumped from sixth after the choreographic exercise to second in the free performance to secure their spot on the podium.
Preliminary
Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan captured their first of two wins at this year's competition with a gold medal in the preliminary division. In their choreographic exercise about a revolution against education, they were the only team to score over 3.50 points for a program component, which they achieved on three of the five components for a segment score of 26.64.
With a lead of nearly four points going into the free performance, the team maintained their overall lead to win gold with 85.84 points overall. In their program titled "Catch Those Puppies" was awarded 4.05 points for their composition for 59.20 points in the segment.
Center Stage of Boston secured the silver medal with 84.36 total points. Their choreographic exercise titled "Extra! Extra! Read All About It!" earned 3.25 points for their presentation of the theme for a segment score of 22.76.
In fifth after the first day of competition, Boston came roaring back, winning the free program with a score of 61.60 to finish second overall. Their program titled "Food Fight" featured the two highest component scores of the competition for their theatricality and ability to create a universe.
San Francisco Ice Theatre captured the bronze medal. They tallied 23.33 points in the choreographic exercise and 50.30 points in the free performance for 73.63 points in total.
Creative Ice Theatre earned the pewter medal with 69.81 total points.
Adult
Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan added another gold to their name a dominant fashion. They finished 50.37 points above second place with a total score of 166.66.
In the choreographic exercise, their skate representing the revolution of liberty, resilience and pride in our country was the only program to score nearly seven points on every program component. They scored nearly two points higher on every program component than the second place finisher to earn 51.01 points for the segment.
On the second day of competition, their free performance asked one simple question: why so serious? The program scored 115.65 points, which was 34.2 points higher than second place thanks to scores of over 7 points for each program component.
San Francisco Ice Theatre earned their fourth consecutive podium finish and best finish since 2022. With a score of 34.84, their choreographic exercise embodied the revolution against projects and deadlines and finding the courage to break free from a meaningless career.
San Francisco’s free program allowed audiences to experience a rainy day on a quaint street in 1960s France where two lovers meet by chance. The program received 81.45 points.
Atlanta Ice Theatre Unsupervised was awarded the bronze medal. Their segment scores of 33.71 and 75.85 combined for a total score of 109.56.
Capital Theatre on Ice earned 99.04 points, good for the pewter medal.
Open
Team Spectacle captured their second consecutive podium finish, winning gold after finishing with the silver medal last year.
Their choreographic exercise told the story of a pirate ship’s crew’s defiance against the captain that leads to a bold confrontation, leading to the team’s highest points for its interpretation of the theme. The segment garnered 37.06 points.
Building on their lead after the choreographic exercise, Team Spectacle maintained the top spot after their free program addressing the uncertainty of who or what awaits us in the afterlife that earned 87.80. They earned six or more points for all but one program component. In total, they claimed gold with 124.86 points.
The Space Coast Hurricanes collected the silver medal and 118.94 total points. Their choreographic exercise goes through the timeline of the fight for U.S. women to earn the right to vote from the early writings of Emily Adams to the passage of the 19th amendment. They received 34.99 points.
Their free performance - which was awarded 83.95 points - explores the themes of the danger of unchecked ambition, the responsibility of scientific pursuits and the potential for social prejudice against others using humor through the lens of Young Frankenstein.
The Chesapeake Sapphires secured 36.83 points in the choreographic exercise, 78.30 points in the free performance and 115.13 points overall to claim the bronze medal.
Capital Theatre on Ice clinched the pewter medal with 114.78 points.
Adaptive
In their debut season, Overture of Boston stood on top of the podium with the gold medal.
Their program depicts a group of friends who explore the various emotions that make us all unique and discover that in order to feel joy, they must experience all of the emotions. Their skate received 52.65 points, including 4.10 points for their ability to create a universe through their program.
Virginia Ice Theatre scored 49.50 points to claim the silver medal. Their performance titled “Time for Breakfast” paid tribute to fellow Skating Club of Northern Virginia club member Cory Haynos who tragically passed away on Flight 5342.
Unified BRAVO’s score of 46.80 earned them the bronze medal and Chicagoland Ice Theatre Inspirations claimed pewter with 46.20 points.
