The Haydenettes are one skate away from returning to the podium at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships after placing third in the short program on Friday in Zagreb, Croatia.
The five-time World bronze medalists will have their sights set on their first World medal since 2016 going into the free skate Saturday.
Scoring 76.74 points for their performance set to " Clair de Lune,” the Haydenettes – who have competed at every World Championships since the event’s debut in 2000 – showcased a clean skate, earning a grade of execution of at least 1.71 on every element. The 31-time U.S. champions were awarded Level 4 marks on their move element and twizzle element, as well as on their point of intersection during their Level 3 intersection, which was their highest-scoring element at 10.05 points.
The Haydenettes trail Les Supremes of Canada, the leader after the short program, by just over two points. They lead Team Unique of Finland by just 0.24.
The Skyliners ended the opening day of the World Championships in sixth place, their best result in a short program at the event. They received 69.28 points.
Competing at their third World Championships and first since 2019, the Skyliners’ skated to "Writing's on the Wall" by Sam Smith. The reigning U.S. silver medalists claimed Level 4s on two elements as well as a Level 3 on their intersection, which featured a Level 4 point of intersection.
