U.S. Figure Skating launched a 100-year timeline on April 5 in celebration of its centennial anniversary. The timeline can be found on the Centennial Celebration website by scrolling down from the top of the home page.
Highlights from all 10 decades are a just click away. Many of the entries are linked to stories and photos that appeared in SKATING magazine via the skatingmagazinearchive.com; some have video and others are linked to stories in other skating publications.
A couple of highlights include a video of Olympic champion Carol Heiss and her ticker-tape parade in New York City, and a letter to membership in SKATING magazine from A. Winsor Weld, the first president of the United States Figure Skating Association.
There’s a notable accomplishments section for each decade, listing all the Olympic, World and U.S. champions and their win streaks.
The timeline will be enhanced and added to throughout the year, and a link requesting the public’s feedback on omissions or corrections is also included.
This year, U.S. Figure Skating is celebrating its centennial anniversary as it recognizes those members, clubs and fans who have given so much to U.S. Figure Skating over the past 100 years. Follow along for more stories and content like this on the Centennial Celebration section of our website.
