Over the past 10 weeks and since the April 10 announced pause to the National Qualifying Series (NQS), U.S. Figure Skating’s Competitions Committee has met consistently to evaluate the series and focus on planning for the fall qualifying events. Due to the continued uncertainty across our nation at this time and challenges due to travel restrictions, the decision was made to cancel the 2020 NQS with the support of the Board of Directors. Although the NQS is canceled as it relates to athletes’ advancement within the qualifying season, each competition host is being encouraged to evaluate their own event with an emphasis on local athletes, coaches and officials participating. Each competition will make its own decision to move ahead with their event. To check the status of any sanctioned competition, please use the “Competition Search” located here.
As we watch the reopening of rinks across the country, this decision will allow our athletes and coaches the time to focus on their safe return to the rinks and safe training windows without the concern of competing within NQS. For those planning to compete within the qualifying structure, the traditional registration is scheduled to open on July 15 for the Regional challenges in October and the respective Finals in November. We look forward to seeing you this fall and are focused on doing everything in our power to ensure the qualifying competition season events will be ready for you to compete!
Information regarding the 2021 Qualifying Season, including but not limited to test eligibility and advancement (challenge to final), will be available no later than July 1.
