More than 200 athletes will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the 2025 National Solo Dance Final taking place Sept. 11-14 at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex.
Salt Lake City, the site of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the city slated to host the Olympic Winter Games in 2034, will welcome the National Solo Dance Final for the first time in the event’s history.
The National Solo Dance Final includes competition in three categories – solo pattern dance, shadow dance and combined solo dance.
Qualification for the National Solo Dance Final is based on results from the 2025 Solo Dance Series, which runs March through August. The top six skaters in solo pattern dance and combined events at each level as well as the top three shadow pattern dance teams at each level advance to compete at the National Solo Dance Final.
Two reigning champions will return to the ice to defend their titles at the highest level. Lucas Appel has his sights set on a third consecutive gold in the senior combined solo dance event while Amal Israilova will look to secure a second straight win in the international solo pattern dance event.
In addition, two of last year’s champions are back to compete, but this time they have their eyes on a different title. 2024 junior gold medalist Dessie Hoewing-Moxley will compete in the senior combined solo dance event for the first time and Khloe Felton, the defending gold solo pattern dance champion, will compete in international solo pattern dance.
Alexandr “Sasha” Kirsanov Trophy
At this year’s Final, a take-home trophy will be awarded in memory of coach Alexandr “Sasha” Kirsanov, who was one of 28 members of the figure skating community who perished on Jan. 29, 2025, in a plane crash near Washington, D.C.
The trophy will be awarded to the winner of the junior dance event and will be presented each year at the Final in his memory.
“He was a huge influence on our solo dance program, embracing it from its inception,” Carol Wooley, national vice chair for solo dance, said.
