The Technical Panel Committee of U.S. Figure Skating will be hosting Technical Panel Continuing Education Schools in singles, pairs, ice dance and data in conjunction with the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Michigan.
The schools will take place at the secondary venue in Bloomfield Hills. We expect the singles, ice dance and data schools to run from the morning of Saturday, Jan. 19 through the late evening of Sunday, Jan. 20. Additional sessions may occur on Friday evening (Jan. 18), and testing may take place on Monday morning (Jan. 21). We expect the pairs school to run from the morning of Sunday, Jan. 20, through the late evening of Monday, Jan. 21, with the possibility of additional sessions on Saturday evening (Jan. 19). Final decisions on the dates and times will be made after we know the number of attendees approved to test and have a final competition schedule.
Please note that we recommend holding off on booking flights until you are officially accepted to the school and a final school schedule, including testing, is provided. If you choose to book your flights earlier, U.S. Figure Skating will not be responsible for any change fees you may incur should it be necessary to adjust the school agenda due to the number of people testing and/or a change to the competition schedule.
All four schools will offer classroom sessions as well as time on actual IJS equipment rink side during juvenile, intermediate and/or novice events. In addition to offering continuing education, testing will be offered for those who already hold a nonqualifying appointment in singles, pairs or ice dance, or a nonqualifying or regional appointment in data who are approved to test for promotion. We are not able to offer testing for national appointments at this school, nor are we able to offer testing for initial certification in any discipline. Please note that our ability to hold each school is dependent on having a sufficient number of approved applicants.
WHO CAN ATTEND
The school is open to technical controllers, technical specialists and data operators already holding a technical panel appointment in singles, pairs and/or ice dance. Those who do not hold an appointment but who have attended a national technical panel seminar and participated in rotations may be accepted if space permits it. Space is limited, and acceptance is not guaranteed.
Data Operators and Technical Specialists
- $125 for those testing for advancement
- $100 for those who would like to practice but not test
- $50 for those testing for advancement
- $25 for those who would like to practice but not test
- Right to attend all the meetings in the respective discipline (singles, pairs, ice dance or data)*
- Practice on actual IJS equipment rink side during select juvenile, intermediate and/or novice events
- Passes necessary to access all events for the school**
Attendees are responsible for their own hotel, meal and transportation costs.
*Those who would like to attend more than one discipline may do so without having to pay a second fee; however, the schedules for the disciplines will overlap, so if you attend more than one, you will not be able to attend all sessions for each school. Testing for advancement is allowed in only one discipline and category per attendee.
**If you would like to attend any novice, junior or senior events, you will need to purchase tickets for those. For more information regarding the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, please visit http://2019uschampionships.com/.
Note: If you are a national official planning to purchase non-working officials tickets, please note that we will NOT be able to offer you a discount for any of the technical panel schools. Although attending a school gives you access to watch some events, the cost of the events are not actually factored into the fee to attend the school. Instead, the fee is used to offset the cost of moderator, hotel and A/V expenses. Information regarding non-working officials tickets for national officials will be emailed to all who are eligible closer to the dates of the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
