(7/18/05) — Beginning July 22, fans can purchase single tickets to 2005 Smart Ones Skate America to see four days of international figure skating competition. The event will take place at the Historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., Oct. 20-23, 2005. This event represents the first international figure skating competition to take place in the state of New Jersey.

Skate America is an Olympic-style international figure skating event featuring four days of competition in ladies and men's singles, pairs and ice dancing. It is the first of six point-earning events in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, which concludes with the Grand Prix Final in December. Skate America, which will attract more than 60 world-class figure skaters from approximately 12 nations, is U.S. Figure Skating's premier international figure skating competition. Interest in the event is expected to be high, as it falls just a few months prior to the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.

Scheduled to compete at the event are athletes from 17 countries including China, Russia, Canada, France and Japan. Top competitors include five-time World and nine-time U.S. champion Michelle Kwan, two-time World silver medalist and 2003 Skate America champion Sasha Cohen, World silver medalists and two-time Skate America ice dancing champions Tanith Belbin & Ben Agosto, and 2004 Skate America champion Brian Joubert of France.

2005 Skate America, hosted locally by the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority (ACCVA), and the New Jersey Council of Figure Skating Clubs (NJCFSC), will receive two weekends of national coverage on ABC and ESPN. In addition, Atlantic City will be showcased worldwide, as past Skate America's have garnered live coverage in Canada and broadcasts in Japan, Russia, France, Italy and Germany.

“It is a great honor and privilege to have the world's best athletes compete in Atlantic City,” said ACCVA's Executive Director Jeff Vasser. “Moreover, it is a pleasure to welcome guests from all parts of the world to our venue … to the city that is always turned on.”

Tickets are available and can be purchased at the Boardwalk Hall Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets by calling 800.736.1420 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
