Russian Pairs Petrova and Tikhonov Withdraw From Smart Ones Skate America

(10/20/04) - The Russian Skating Federation announced Wednesday that pairs team Marina Petrova and Alexei Tikhonov have withdrawn from Smart Ones Skate America. The event will now feature nine pairs teams.

Petrova and Tikhonov were one of the top three pairs teams scheduled to competed at Skate America this weekend. The Russians, who won the World title in 2000, have been one of the world's top four pairs teams the last six years. They were fourth at the 2004 World Championships. Last season the won the silver medal at Smart Ones Skate America in Reading, Pa.
