Twenty-Four Athletes to Represent Team USA at Three International Events this Week

(10/1/13) - The 2013 international figure skating season continues this week with the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (JGP) Series and two senior B events, Ondrej Nepela Trophy and Finlandia Trophy.

JGP Czech Republic is set for Oct. 2-6, in Ostrava, Czech Republic; Nepela Trophy will take place Oct. 3-5, in Bratislava, Slovakia; and Finlandia Trophy will be held Oct. 4-6, in Espoo, Finland. Eight athletes will represent Team USA in ladies, pairs and ice dance in the Czech Republic, 10 athletes will compete in all four disciplines in Slovakia and six athletes will compete in singles and dance in Finland.

Icenetwork will provide event coverage from all three events.

NEPELA TROPHY

Held annually since 1993, Nepela Trophy is a senior-level competition for singles, pairs and ice dance.

LADIES
Christina Gao qualified for the 2012 Grand Prix Final before finishing fifth at the 2013 U.S. Championships and fourth at 2013 Four Continents.

MEN
Ross Miner, who trains with Gao at The Skating Club of Boston, has medaled at three straight U.S. Championships. He finished second in 2013.

PAIRS
Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier will make their senior international debut as the reigning World Junior champions. Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim are the 2013 U.S. silver medalists, while Gretchen Donlan and Andrew Speroff finished sixth at the 2013 U.S. Championships.

ICE DANCE
Alexandra Aldridge and Daniel Eaton also make their senior international debut in Slovakia. They have won two consecutive U.S. junior titles and World Junior bronze medals.

FINLANDIA TROPHY

Held annually since 1995, Finlandia Trophy is a senior-level competition for singles, ice dance and synchronized skating.

LADIES
Mirai Nagasu is the 2012 Finlandia bronze medalist. She also won bronze at 2012 NHK Trophy and finished seventh at the 2013 U.S. Championships. Vanessa Lam will compete at the senior international level for the first time.

MEN
Ricky Dornbush won silver at 2012 Finlandia Trophy. He finished his season with a fifth-place showing at 2013 Four Continents. Douglas Razzano will make his second career Finlandia Trophy appearance having finished second in 2011.

ICE DANCE
Madison Chock and Evan Bates begin the season as U.S. silver medalists and Four Continents bronze medalists.

JGP CZECH REPUBLIC

LADIES
Angela Wang won silver at 2013 JGP Poland in mid-September. Amber Glenn will make her international debut in Ostrava. She finished fifth as a junior at the 2013 U.S. Championships.

PAIRS
Chelsea Liu and Devin Perini are the 2013 U.S. junior pewter medalists and will make their international debuts.

ICE DANCE
Rachel Parsons and Michael Parsons skate for their second medal of the season after winning silver at JGP Slovakia. Chloe Lewis and Logan Bye, the 2013 U.S. novice champions, finished fifth in their season-opener, JGP Mexico, last month.

Now in its 17th season, the JGP Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of five designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, Dec. 5-8, in Fukuoka, Japan.

JGP Estonia: Tallinn, Estonia - Oct. 9-13 (includes pairs)
JGP Final: Fukuoka, Japan - Dec. 5-8 (includes pairs)
