Team USA Earns Five Medals at JGP United States

(9/1/12) - Team USA earned a total of five medals, including two gold medals and at least one medal in each discipline, at the 2012 International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (JGP) Series event in Lake Placid, NY this past weekend.In the men's event Joshua Farris won gold by a margin of more than 36 points and he landed his first quadruple jump, a quad toe, in competition during his free skate. Fellow American James Schetelich finished in 12th in his international debut.
Entering the free dance in second place, reigning U.S. junior champions Alexandra Aldridge and Daniel Eaton overcame a deficit of nearly six points to earn the gold medal. The finish is their first gold medal in a JGP event. Americans Elliana Pogrebinsky and Ross Gudis and Madeline Heritage and Nathaniel Fast finished sixth and eighth respectively.
In the pairs event, Madeline Aaron and Max Settlage came from off the podium in the short program to earn the bronze medal with a second place effort in the free skate. The duo improves upon a fifth place performance in their previous JGP event last season.
Team USA was represented with four pairs in the competition and Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier finished in fourth, Jessica Pfund and AJ Reiss finished fifth and Olivia Oltmanns and Joshua Santillan finished in 12th.
In the final event of the weekend, the ladies free skate, both Coutney Hicks and Angela Wang improved upon their position in the short program and landed on the podium. Hicks entered Saturday in third place and moved one spot higher, earning silver, while Wang leapt five spots from eighth to earn the bronze. Kiri Baga finished in fifth place.
