2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games Athletes Announced(12/19/11) - Five U.S. Figure Skating athletes will be among 57 Americans to represent the United States at the first Winter Youth Olympic Games Jan. 13-22, 2012, in Innsbruck, Austria.
American figure skaters will compete in ladies, pairs and ice dancing at the Olympic Ice Stadium. No age-eligible men qualified for the event.
Hosted by the International Olympic Committee, the Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held every four years, consistent with the Olympic Games format. More than 1,050 athletes from more than 60 countries are expected to compete in Innsbruck. The sport program will encompass 15 disciplines and 63 events. LADIESJordan Bauth has enjoyed a successful career competing out of the North Atlantic region. She has won three consecutive North Atlantic Regional Championships at three competitive levels (intermediate, novice, junior) dating back to 2010. Bauth won gold at the 2012 North Atlantic Regionals as a junior in October before placing fifth at the Eastern Sectional Championships.
PAIRSCaitlin Belt & Michael Johnson are 2011 U.S. intermediate silver medalists. They skipped competing at the novice level this season to compete as juniors in hopes of being selected to the Winter Youth Olympic Games. They placed fifth at the 2012 Eastern Sectional Championships in November.
ICE DANCINGRachel Parsons & Michael Parsons are the 2011 U.S. novice champions. The duo qualified for the 2012 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships by placing second at the Eastern Sectional Championships last month. They will travel directly from Innsbruck to San Jose, Calif., to compete at the U.S. Championships.
