Announces Weekly 'World Figure Skater Rankings'

(10/22/07) - U.S. Figure Skating and unveiled today the weekly “World Figure Skater Rankings,” to be found on The rankings, updated weekly, will rank the top 20 figure skaters in the world in ladies, men's, pairs and ice dancing.

A skater or team's ranking is determined by the total points accumulated since the 2005-06 season. This points-based system takes into account both national and international competitions. Skaters not competing in the 2007-08 season will not be considered for the rankings. More information about the criteria for ranking can be found on The World Figure Skater Rankings will be updated on each Monday.

The top-ranked skaters in this week's rankings are Japan's Mao Asada (ladies), France's Brian Joubert (men's), China's Dan Zhang and Hao Zhang (pairs) and the United States' Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto. The U.S. has a skater or team ranked in the top five in each discipline. In addition to Belbin and Agosto, Kimmie Meissner (fourth), Evan Lysacek (fourth) and Rena Inoue and John Baldwin (fifth) sit in the top five in ladies, men's and pairs.
