Orscher and Lucash To Appear on Today Show's Olympic Preview

(8/9/05) - 2005 U.S. pairs champions Katie Orscher & Garrett Lucash will appear on NBC's Today Show on Wednesday, Aug. 10, with U.S. Olympic hopefuls from other sports, marking exactly six months out from the Opening Ceremonies for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
After winning the pairs title at the 2005 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Orscher and Lucash are frontrunners for one of two U.S. Olympic spots for figure skating pairs teams. The U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team will be selected at the conclusion of the 2006 U.S. Championships in St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 7-15, 2006. Orscher and Lucash have extensive international experience including a bronze medal at the 2005 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships and a 12th-place finish at the 2005 World Figure Skating Championships.
Orscher and Lucash will appear on the Today Show with 2002 Olympian moguls skier Jeremy Bloom, 2002 Olympic silver medalist bobsledder Todd Hayes, 2002 Olympic silver medalist Julie Chu of the U.S. women's hockey team and two-time X-Games snowboarding superpipe champion Gretchen Bleiler.
Orscher and Lucash have been training all summer to prepare for the upcoming season. Their first appearance of the 2005-2006 season will be an exhibition at the 2005 Campbell's Figure Skating Classic in St. Paul, Minn., Oct. 8. Their first major competition will be 2005 Smart Ones Skate America in Atlantic City, N.J., Oct. 20-23.
The 2006 Olympic Winter Games kicks off Feb. 10, 2006, with the Opening Ceremonies at the Stadio Olimpico. The figure skating pairs competition will take place at the Palavala on Saturday, Feb. 11, and Monday, Feb. 13.
