(11/15/04) — Five-time World and eight-time U.S. champion Michelle Kwan made a special trip to Detroit on Friday, Nov. 12, to skate and interact with approximately 20 young skaters at the Detroit Skating Club. Her visit also served to promote the Dec. 3 Marshalls World Cup of Figure Skating, to be held at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Most of the youngsters invited to skate with Kwan will serve as "sweepers" at The Palace event. While at the Detroit Skating Club Kwan spent her time skating, teaching, watching and laughing with the sweepers who cherished the time she provided them. She also spent extra time with three special needs skaters: Hunter Jones, a five-year-old hearing impaired skater; Danny Moloney, a 13-year-old skater with Down Syndrome; and Cassandra Wilson, a nine-year old skater with epilepsy. After the clinic, Kwan took time to sign autographs and meet her fans.
