2009-10 Fantasy Skating Series
The U.S. Figure Skating Fantasy Challenge enters its 14th season in 2009–10! Fantasy skating has proven to be an extremely popular game that combines all the excitement of the competitive figure skating season with the individual obsession and passion of fantasy sports management. The rules are simple and the competition is intense. Please take a moment to read the description and rules of the game carefully and join in the fun this year by entering online.
Game Description
You are the team manager for a fictional collection of the top eligible figure skaters in the world today. The success of your fantasy team against other teams in the contest is based on the individual performances of your team members in upcoming, real-life competitions. In this year’s Fantasy Challenge, the six events comprising the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, AT&T U.S. Figure Skating Championships, European Figure Skating Championships, Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, Olympic Winter Games and World Figure Skating Championships will be used.
Your team will consist of three men, three ladies, two or three pairs and three dance teams that you will select from the Fantasy Challenge competitors list. The skaters have been placed into three pools - A, B and C - by the commissioner of the Fantasy Challenge. (For some Grand Prix Series events, the pairs entrants may be placed into only A and B pools.) The icenetwork.com World Skater Rankings will be used as a guideline for pool placement. The pool system is important in determining the mix of competitors you will be allowed to have on your team.
How To Select Your Team
For each event, you select three competitors in each of the four disciplines – men's, ladies, pairs and dance – one each from pools A, B and C, giving you a total of 12 skaters/teams. Your team will be different for each competition, as the field of skaters at each event is different. There are no other limitations on the makeup of your team. NOTE: Please check both www.icenetwork.com and www.isu.org for an updated list of skaters before sending in your entry. You will be able to select a new skater should one of your team members withdraw from the series or an event for any reason, but it must be done before the beginning of the competition. All rosters will be locked once the competition begins.
Scoring
The skaters on your team will receive individual points based on their real-life performances. The scoring format is different this year than in the past. The amount of points you receive for each skater will correspond to the amount of points that skater scores in the competition. For example, if you had chosen Evan Lysacek as your Pool A skater at the 2009 World Championships, he would have scored you 242.23 points since that’s how many points he scored in the competition.
Skaters who fail to finish or who do not compete as scheduled for any reason receive 0 points. The individual scoring formula will be the same for each of the four disciplines – men's, ladies, pairs and ice dancing.
Team Scoring and Prizes
The individual totals for each of your team members will be added to give your team an overall score after each event. There will be two scoreboards displayed on www.usfigureskating.org: one showing the overall standings and the other showing the standings for each event. There will also be two sets of prizes, one for the weekly winner and the other for the overall first-, second- and third-place finishers. The weekly winner receives $25 credit (including shipping) toward selected merchandise in the U.S. Figure Skating Online Store. The overall winner will receive $100 to the online store, the second-place finisher $75 and third place $50. Credit must be redeemed within 90 days of the final event. The winners will be contacted via e-mail to arrange the prizes. Ties in the weekly standings will be broken by a random drawing. Ties in the overall standings will be broken by calculating team totals at the final event of the season. If teams are still tied, a random drawing will be held to determine the winner(s).
